Pearson Edexcel iPrimary & iLowerSecondary
A complete British international learning pathway for ages 5–14. From strong primary foundations to confident International GCSE preparation, Britannia International Academy delivers live teacher-led lessons, Pearson curriculum resources, and continuous academic progress monitoring.
The Pearson iProgress academic pathway
Part of the complete Pearson iProgress continuum for British international curriculum schools: iPrimary (Ages 5–11, Years 1–6) → iLowerSecondary (Ages 11–14, Years 7–9) → International GCSE (9–1) (Ages 14–16) → International AS/A Level (Ages 16–19).
A complete teaching and learning programme
Pearson Edexcel iPrimary and iLowerSecondary provide a structured and progressive international education from primary through lower secondary, supporting students as they build the knowledge, skills, and confidence required for their next stage of education.
The programmes have been developed specifically for international learners and are designed with learners of English as an Additional Language (EAL) in mind. Curriculum content uses internationally focused and culturally relevant examples while working towards strong academic outcomes.
Learning follows a spiral approach, with important concepts revisited at increasing levels of depth and complexity as students progress through each year. Together, iPrimary and iLowerSecondary provide explicit preparation for progression to Pearson Edexcel International GCSE (9–1).
Pearson Edexcel iPrimary (ages 5–11)
School years: Years 1–6
Pearson Edexcel iPrimary delivers six years of structured teaching and learning, establishing robust academic foundations while preparing students for seamless progression into lower secondary education.
The curriculum follows a proven spiral approach: core concepts and skills are revisited each year with increasing depth and complexity. This enables learners to consolidate earlier knowledge while developing confident critical thinking, problem-solving, and subject mastery across English, mathematics, and science.
Curriculum framework & Our timetable
The Pearson Edexcel curriculum scope
The full Pearson iPrimary and iLowerSecondary framework offers an extensive international syllabus. At its core, it encompasses English, mathematics, science, computing, and global citizenship. Beyond these foundations, the broader Pearson catalogue provides full curriculum support across art, music, physical education, geography, history, and design & technology, delivering a comprehensive international framework designed for modern learners.
What Britannia International Academy teaches
Please note that the overarching Pearson curriculum catalogue is distinct from Britannia’s active live schedule. In our online classrooms, Britannia International Academy delivers scheduled, teacher-led timetabled lessons focused on the essential core subjects—ensuring rigorous instruction, dedicated progress tracking, and direct preparation for International GCSE qualifications. Supplementary subjects from the wider framework are integrated selectively through enrichment modules and guided resources.
Pearson Edexcel iLowerSecondary (ages 11–14)
School years: Years 7–9
Pearson Edexcel iLowerSecondary builds directly upon the foundations established during primary education, guiding students through the vital transition towards International GCSE study.
Across Years 7 to 9, learners develop increasingly sophisticated subject knowledge alongside essential analytical, problem-solving, communication, and independent learning skills. The curriculum is designed with seamless progression in mind, allowing core strands to evolve naturally from primary into lower secondary and onward to International GCSE excellence.
With three years of structured teaching support, Britannia International Academy ensures every student is academically equipped and confident for their upcoming exam qualifications.
Pearson ActiveLearn and digital learning resources
At Britannia International Academy, Pearson curriculum delivery is directly supported by student access to Pearson ActiveLearn and comprehensive digital learning resources. This gives our learners valuable opportunities to read, practise, consolidate core knowledge, and complete teacher-directed tasks in an interactive digital setting.
Depending on their year group and subjects across iPrimary and iLowerSecondary, students can access rich, curriculum-aligned materials directly alongside their scheduled live classes and independent study. Fully organised by subject and year level, the Britannia Pearson ActiveLearn portal connects our pupils seamlessly to official learning aids, interactive textbooks, and targeted activities.
Assessment & academic progress
Continuous progress assessment
Students' progress is monitored throughout the academic year using curriculum-aligned assessment, teacher evaluation, assignments, and regular progress monitoring.
Pearson provides termly and end-of-year Progress Tests across its core iPrimary and iLowerSecondary subjects. These assessments are designed to measure progress against specific curriculum objectives and help identify areas where students may require further support or challenge.
Pearson Edexcel achievement tests
Internationally benchmarked assessment at the end of Years 6 and 9.
Students completing iPrimary or iLowerSecondary may take the optional Pearson Edexcel Achievement Test at the end of:
Year 6 — iPrimary Achievement Test
Year 9 — iLowerSecondary Achievement Test
These assessments are externally marked and internationally benchmarked, providing certified recognition of a student's study. They are developed by the same Pearson assessment teams responsible for International GCSE and International A Level qualifications.
