Develop the confidence and communication skills required to succeed in education, employment and everyday life.

The Highfield Functional Skills Qualification in English at Level 2 focuses on developing learners' ability to read, write, speak, listen and communicate effectively in a variety of situations.

The qualification covers three mandatory components:

  • Reading: Understanding, interpreting and evaluating written information.

  • Writing: Producing clear, accurate and effective written communication for different purposes and audiences.

  • Speaking, Listening and Communicating: Participating in discussions, delivering presentations and communicating ideas confidently.

Learners must successfully complete all three components to achieve the qualification.

The Highfield Functional Skills Qualification in Mathematics at Level 2 is designed to help learners apply mathematical understanding, reasoning and decision-making skills to realistic situations.

The qualification focuses on three principal subject areas:

  • Using Numbers and the Number System: Working with whole numbers, fractions, decimals, percentages, ratios and mathematical calculations.

  • Using Measures, Shape and Space: Applying mathematical skills to measurements, geometry, financial calculations and practical situations.

  • Handling Information and Data: Understanding statistics, interpreting numerical information, recognising patterns and calculating probabilities.

Problem-solving and decision-making skills are developed throughout the qualification.
