Digi Computing Curriculum

Digi is a suite of primary and secondary school computing programmes developed by NCC Education.

Digi recognises the importance of strong digital skills and provides a core understanding of computer science in the 21st century. The course has been designed to meet the needs of UK and international students aged 5 to 16.

Digital Literacy Programme:

  • Digi Key Stage 1—Digi Explorers (Age: 5-7)

  • Digi Key Stage 2—Digi Navigators (Age: 7-11)

  • Digi Key Stage 3—Digi Trailblazers (Age: 11-14)

  • Digi Key Stage 4—Digi Award (Age: 14-16)

Digi Explorers

Digi Explorers is the first computing programme for primary school students. Students are introduced to Scratch programming language

The programme provides a high quality, comprehensive introduction to computing for students both in the UK and internationally and is fully aligned with the new English Computing curriculum for Key Stage 1.  

Overview Digi Explorers

Digi Explorers introduces students to key concepts of digital citizenship and online safety. This means that candidates will gain the core skills and understanding of the online world which will allow them to become safe and responsible members of online communities.

Entry Requirements

The Digi-Explorers programme is suitable for candidates aged 5–7 years old (Key Stage 1 in the English national curriculum) as well as older learners.

It is expected that candidates who are non-native English speakers are able to cope with the demands of preparing for and taking the Digi-Explorers assessment in English.

Assessment

All students who complete a Digi programme course are provided with a certificate of achievement. On completion of a full Digi programme (i.e. for Digi Explorers this means completing course 1 and 2) students may be entered for formal assessment leading to qualification certification.

The NCC Education Digi assessment and certification ensures students achieve recognition at each stage (i.e. for each programme course completed) as well as the opportunity to gain an internationally available Computing qualification – and global benchmark for their computing skills and knowledge – from NCC Education.

Digi Navigators

Digi Navigators is the second stage computing programme for young learners. Students are introduced to Python programming language.

The programme provides a high quality, comprehensive Computing curriculum for students both in the UK and internationally and is fully aligned with the new English Computing curriculum for Key Stage 2.  

Overview Digi Navigators

New topics are introduced for this upper primary stage and students’ coding skills are taken to the next level as they are introduced to and begin using their second main programming language, Python.

The Digi-Navigators programme is suitable for candidates aged 7-11 years old (Key Stage 2 in the English national curriculum) as well as older learners.

It is expected that candidates who are non-native English speakers are able to cope with the demands of preparing for and taking the Digi-Explorers assessment in English.

Digi Trailblazers

Digi Trailblazers is the third computing programme for Secondary school learners. Students are introduced to more advanced Scratch and Python programming lessons.

The Digi Trailblazers programme provides a high quality, comprehensive Computing curriculum for students both in the UK and internationally and is fully aligned with the new English Computing curriculum for Key Stage 3. 

Overview Digi Trailblazers

New topics are introduced for this first secondary school programme and students’ existing coding skills are taken even further with more advanced Scratch and Python programming lessons.

Entry Requirements

The Digi Trailblazers programme is suitable for candidates aged 11-14 years old (Key Stage 3 in the English national curriculum) as well as older learners.

It is expected that candidates who are non-native English speakers are able to cope with the demands of preparing for and taking the Digi Trailblazers assessment in English.

All students who complete a Digi programme course are provided with a certificate of achievement. On completion of a full Digi programme (i.e. for Digi Trailblazer this means completing course 1, 2, and 3) students may be entered for formal assessment leading to qualification certification.

Level 2 Award in Computing (L2AC)

The NCC Education Level 2 Award in Computing is an Ofqual regulated qualfication. It is the highest level Computing programme for Secondary school learners and is included in the UK Regulated Qualifications Framework at Level 2 (the same level as all IGCSE qualifications). Students’ coding skills are strengthened with more advanced Python lessons and introduction lessons in Java.

The Digi Award programme fully consolidates students’ computational thinking, online safety, digital literacy and coding skills and lessons provide innovative projects where students practice the Computing skills and techniques required for success in the modern world, further vocational or academic study.  

Overview Level 2 Award in Computing (L2AC)

New topics are introduced for this final secondary school programme and students’ coding skills are strengthened with more advanced Python lessons as well as lessons providing an introduction to Java, the most popular programming language globally.

Entry Requirements

The NCC Education Level 2 Award in Computing syllabus and assessment is suitable for candidates aged 14–16 (at Key Stage 4 of the English national curriculum) as well as older (including adult) learners.

It is expected that candidates who are non-native English speakers are able to cope with the demands of preparing for and taking the NCC Education Level 2 Award in Computing assessment in English.
