Recognising Extra-Curricular Achievement

Britannia International Academy is proud to offer the AQA Unit Award Scheme (UAS) — a UK-accredited recognition programme that enables students to receive official certificates from AQA, one of the UK’s leading awarding bodies.

The Unit Award Scheme is a flexible, accessible way for learners of all ages to have achievements in and outside the classroom formally recognised with UK certification.

What Is the AQA Unit Award Scheme?

The AQA Unit Award Scheme allows learners to engage with meaningful learning and receive a certificate each time they complete a unit of work. Certificates record the skills, knowledge and understanding gained through activities beyond standard classroom assessments.

This flexible scheme can be used to recognise:

  • Academic learning projects

  • Practical skills development

  • Work-related or community activities

  • Life skills and personal progress

Through UAS, students build a portfolio of recognised achievements that boost confidence, increase motivation, and celebrate personal success.

UAS is particularly beneficial for students who thrive with personalised learning, those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), or learners needing a boost in confidence. It's also ideal for those exploring new skills outside standard curricula. By offering bite-sized units, the scheme helps students achieve individual goals by breaking down larger tasks, providing tangible evidence of their skills and progress, and building a portfolio of recognised accomplishments that validate their efforts and prepare them for future pathways.

๐Ÿง  How Does It Work?

  1. Students complete structured learning units or activities that demonstrate specific outcomes.

  2. Evidence is collected (photos, reports, reflections, project outcomes).

  3. Britannia International Academy submits the work to AQA through the Unit Award Scheme.

  4. AQA issues an official certificate for each completed unit.

Certificates are issued regularly throughout the year, providing immediate recognition of achievement

๐Ÿงฉ What Can Be Recognised?

The Unit Award Scheme is exceptionally broad and adaptable. Students can receive recognition for extra-curricular and home-based activities such as:

  • ๐Ÿณ Cooking and food preparation

  • ๐ŸŠ Swimming and physical pursuits

  • ๐Ÿ’ƒ Dance and performance

  • ๐ŸŽต Music and creative arts

  • ๐ŸŽจ Crafts and design projects

  • ๐Ÿง  Life skill achievements

  • ๐Ÿ“š Independent learning initiatives

If your child has developed skills, demonstrated effort, or completed extra-curricular activities — these can now be recognised with a UK certificate.

๐ŸŽฏ Why This Matters

Official recognition from a respected UK awarding body like AQA:

  • Encourages continuous learning

  • Builds confidence and self-esteem

  • Provides documented achievement outcomes

  • Enhances school and home learning portfolios

Whether your child is learning at school or at home, UAS allows their achievements to be officially recognised and celebrated.
