Modular qualifications for globally minded students

Pearson Edexcel International AS/A Levels are internationally recognised qualifications designed for learners aged 16–19. Renowned worldwide for academic excellence, they provide students with the knowledge and skills required to progress to leading universities and global employment opportunities

Recognised Worldwide for Academic Excellence

Pearson Edexcel sets the standard for worldwide recognised qualifications aligned to the British educational system

International A Levels are accepted by over 650 higher education institutions worldwide, including leading universities such as Oxford, Cambridge, Columbia University and Yale University

International A Levels (IAL®) are comparable to UK A Levels, as confirmed by UK NARIC, the national agency responsible for providing information and expert opinion on qualifications and skills worldwide

The same rigorous standards are applied to all Pearson Edexcel qualifications.

Modular Assessment

Flexible Assessment Structure

The modular assessment structure allows students to sit examinations when they feel fully prepared. Once a unit exam is completed and graded, the result is ‘banked’ until all units are complete

Students then ‘cash in’ their unit results to receive an overall qualification grade.

Examinations are available in January, June and October (in most subjects), and students may re-sit individual units if required

Benefits of the Modular Route

  • Reduced exam pressure

  • Opportunities for re-sits

  • Early formal feedback through unit results

  • Ability to spread assessment across two years

Linear Route Option

Students may also choose a linear approach, where assessments for all units are taken together at the end of the course

Building Transferable Skills

Higher education institutions and employers increasingly highlight the importance of transferable skills alongside academic knowledge

Pearson Edexcel International A Levels are designed using the National Research Council’s evidence-based framework, embedding:

  • Cognitive skills

  • Intrapersonal skills

  • Interpersonal skills

Transferable skills are embedded within specifications, schemes of work and student textbooks, helping learners develop analytical thinking, creativity, communication and collaboration skills.

Pearson Edexcel Extended Level 3 Project Qualification (EPQ)

The Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) is an optional, standalone Level 3 qualification taken alongside core International A-level subjects

It enables students to:

  • Explore an area of personal interest

  • Develop independent research and project management skills

  • Earn additional UCAS points (up to 28 points for an A*)

EPQ is 100% coursework-based and assessed on:

  • Project management
